The Ears of the Landscape
As part of StrandLAB field academy I developed a Soundwalk/Listening workshop, starting from the landscape. Besides choosing and clearing a route, I researched how to prepare the audience through site-specific listening exercises and developing awareness for the physical workings of sound and acoustics, After the introduction the walk becomes a constantly developing compositional experience in which your location towards the landscape and your own focus play the main parts.
The environment of the Almeerderstrand consists of a concatenation of places with different acoustic qualities. These places consist of sounds of natural forces, the infrastructure, people, animals and bushes, technology and architecture. Walking through these places, these sounds are often at odds with each other and can cause unexpected twists in our listening.
